About Me

My photo
München, Bayern, Germany
I love all things motorsports and racing. I have an unhealthy addiction to modifying anything mechanical. Brakes and Suspension are my forte and I love driving fast in slow cars. I am in love with math, physics and knowing how things work. But if there's anything I've learned since being here, it's that experiencing a multitude of other cultures, traveling, and seeing tangible history will enrich ones life in ways no book can offer.

München / Neuschwanstein / BMW

München was pretty awesome; i got to meet up with a cousin who i haven't seen in about 10 years. The Weinachtsmarkt was pretty huge and lots of cool vendor/stands. The first night I wandered and took a couple pics.

Hofbrauhaus, one of many beer halls. I got a free Maß (1L) glass mug from here.

The Next day i went to Neuschwanstein. In the morning it was very cloudy, snowing even...but by afternoon it cleared up a bit. It was absolutely breathtaking.

Finally we went to the BMW Meuseum/BMW Welt and the BMW Factory tour. They make the 3 series in München and showed how the panels are all stamped/pressed, glued and welded. Then how the motor and drivetrain is assembled. Cost was 5€ for factory tour, 6,50€ for the Museum. They have an exibit on the BMW art cars till the end of December.

white balance was messed up, but thought it was cool anyway. To the left is BMW Welt, that little bowl/building on the right hand side is BMW Museum.

Weinachtsmarkt Braunschweig

Geez, I have to update this blog. Weihnachtsmarkt (christmas market) started last thursday and will run to Dec 26.

Theres a bunch of stuff from Glühwein (hot mulled/spiced wine with rum or ammeretto) to half meter Bratwurst. The overall atmosphere is a lot more festive than back in the states. Even if you arent religious, it's still enjoyable to sit in these little tents drinking warm alcoholic beverages talking laughing with friends.

Weihnachtsmarkt Braunschweig:

Tonight I leave for München (Munich) for the extended weekend. I will be going to Neuschwanstein sat or sunday and visiting BMW welt/BMW Factory Tour on monday. I will also be catching up with one of my Cousins Cousin sat night at her best friends place for a party.

Pics to come...if i remember my battery charger

Thanksgiving

A friend of the IEP had invited many of us over to have an American Thanksgiving in Germany. I made two cheesecakes, a Nutella cheesecake and a Bailey's Irish Cream cheesecake. There was an amazing turkey wrapped and baked in bacon, many sides and as with every Thanksgiving, never enough stuffing. It was a great time with great friends being thankful for this experience, and wishing well to our family back home.

School Started - Lions Racing (Formula Kart)

Not much to report other than Classes starting. It is quite hectic and some lectures seeminglz are delayed. I am thinking about dropping Linear Algebra (not required for my major) to concentrate more on practicing German. My Grundlagen der Fahzeugtechnik (Fundementals of automotive engineering) class seems relatively easy...except for the brick wall that is language. I understand concepts but not vocab. I have to concentrate pretty hard to do well.

I find my German comprehension has improved greatly, but I still struggle to make random conversation. It is very difficult for me and I sometimes get discouraged to see so many others improving conversationally.

I joined the Formula Kart team. Meetings are full of logistical planning, business proposals and sponsorship planning. A couple get togethers with reps from Continental and VW and team . They have a stack of R comp tires that Conti sends them to test out various compounds. The previous cars used primarily GSXR600 motors with pneumatic shifting. Every year they build new cars, new parts, everything from scratch. They ADD anti-lock brakes. They machine the parts themselves. They cast their own knuckles. They make their own fuel. They lay out carbon fiber body's, they weld tubular chassis. It's a perfect collaboration between Mechy's, Chemy's, and Electrical Engineering. And there's 8 of these cars laying in their garage....because their budget and sponsorships allow them to start new every year.

I'm glad I can work on this project with them even if it's probably minimal engineering on my end. Language barrier is still a bit tough for me. I understand things well, but lack the vocab to respond. This  year is the first year they are going all electric. I hope to help out with suspension design/handling but may also help out with gearbox design.
